Alexandra Bridge

Traveling north (east) on Highway 1, between Spuzzum and Hells Gate, one finds the Alexandra Bridge. The bridge is no longer in use but is a Provincial Park. Definately worth a stop and hike down for an up close look. In the parking area there is a very informative display which details the power and challenges of the Fraser River through the canyon.

Nahatlatch River Crossing

When it was time to leave the Nahatlatch Valley, Patricia rode on the trailer as we crossed the River. The view is spectacular and I only wish I was filming as the freedom of being on the back would be great.

Dewdney Slide @ Yahoo! Video

Riding in the Dewdney Creek Forest Service Road we came upon a rockslide at the 8km marker. The first time we came, Patricia got on my bike and videoed the ride up and back.

The next weekend we came up again. This time the road was much worse and instead of just 2 riders, we had 3. My 9 year old son Yale was with us. As Yale was manouvering through the worst spot, he dropped his bike. Just then I heard rocks falling from above. So I did what any good father would do, I yelled at him to leave the bike and run like hell. After he was out of danger I pulled out the video camera and got to shooting the slide. Fortunately it was a small one but you never know…

The Snake Pit

While not a true backroad, the Snake Pit in the Thompson Canyon is a truly memorable stretch of road. Following the Thompson River, Highway 1 enters a particularly tight section and the resulting road has always been a blast to ride through.

The Hanging Valley in Summer

For the BC Day long weekend, Patricia and myself headed out to The Nahatlatch Valley for the weekend. It was great as we would be able to stay for 2 nights instead of 1 like we usually do. We arrived in the Valley in the late afternoon and found a site within 50 metres of the river and giving us total privacy, good score. We made the trip up to The Hanging Valley on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

During the summer of 2007 I had the chance to explore the Highcountry of BC.
